Inauguration Ceremony of One Room Shelter Project was held on Thursday, the l5th March, 2012 at a local Hotel in Karachi. In partnership with Department for International Development-DFID In the perspective of HANDS efforts to rebuild Pakistan (TAMEER) Construction of 19500 One Room Shelter and provision of l0500 Roofing Kits are at the serve under the project.Provincial Minister for Rehabilitation Haji Muzaffar Shujra Chief Guest of the ceremony appreciated the efforts HANDS and DFID and committed for every possible co operation from provincial government to carry out such a worthy cause.Chairman HANDS Prof Gaffar Billoo welcomed the participants Dr. Shaikh Tanveer Ahmed CE HANDS presented the brief of one room shelter project as under:
HANDS with the financial assistance of Department for International Development (DFID) have planned to reach to a population of 210,000 individuals (30,000 households) in badly affected districts of Sindh province. HANDS will provide 10,500 emergency shelter / roofing kits to displaced families that would comprise of plastic sheets, bamboos, steel girder, ropes and solar lights accommodating 73,500 individuals while nearly 19500 most affected families with completely or partially damaged households (136,500 individuals) will return to their villages be provided financial assistance in construction / renovation of one room shelter. Proposed project will be implemented in district Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Matiari, Badin, S Banazir abad, Tando Mohammad Khan and Tando Allahyar. HANDS will train local Men and Women Community Based Organizations in development of village level Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency response plan. Project will be implemented through local community based organizations.
Coordinators from various National Shelter Clusters also presented their projects brief. Delegates from civil society, Consulates, Media and Government officials attended the Ceremony.
