HANDS took the initiative for the first time in the history of Pakistan to appreciate the role of media recruits during and post Flood 2010. Here at Karachi Press Club on 7th June 2011. Shields of honor presented to the best correspondents who performed at their best during emergency and yet committed to carry out their services at their best.
Prof. Gaffar A Billoo inaugurated the event with an inspiring presentation on post disaster situation. “80% of the work is still remaining” said the veteran Professor. He also emphasized to engage government authorities to prepare the nation for upcoming disastrous situations ever in future. A documentary was shown describing the damages came about by Flood and HANDS efforts to mitigate from early emergency relief to rehabilitation.
Prof. Tauseef Ahmed appreciated HANDS initiative to arrange such kind of event. “Media should only focus on providing information to people as this is the only job of Media and not to take part on any other agenda” Dr. Jabbar Khatak said “Prof. A. Gaffar Billoo is a role model but unfortunately Pakistan is deficient in peoples like him. He said Pakistan holds the record of highest number of Philanthropists but regrettably it is not a Welfare State. Only 20% of the budget is used for the underprivileged.
Dr Tanveer Shaikh appreciated the solitary shown by the media persons on this event.
