KARACHI: Pupils School of Yousuf Goth located at Gadap town initiated a campaign regarding health and hygiene specially for the importance of toilet cleanness and to mobilize and increase awareness in neighborhood in order to observe World Toilet Day in Pakistan HANDS with the collaboration of its partner WaterAid in Pakistan celebrated World Toilet Day and organized a walk for the cause at school of Yousuf Goth located at Gadap town in Karachi walk was attended by school pupils, teachers and community members and who spoke about the importance of cleanness in toilet later HANDS representatives Shoaib Jagirani and Shahnaz Shahid advocated about the importance of toilet in their school, houses and locality moreover HANDS manager advocacy Abdul Raheem Moosavi stated that, “Pakistan is among 10 worst countries whose citizens does not have proper access to clean water and proper toilets”.
The World Toilet Day (WTD) was observed across the world on 19 November 2013. In the world about a third of the world’s people don’t have an access to a decent toilet. According to the United Nations about 2.5 billion people do not have an access to adequate sanitation and about 1 billion people practice open defecation, which contributes many diseases. Each year, more than 800000 children under 5 die from diarrhea, many due to poor sanitation.
Nineteen (19) countries around the globe observe United Nations World Toilet Day in order to mark the importance of toilets and sanitation; since more than 48 million Pakistanis are suffering from contaminated water and non availability of toilets as per United Nations 2.5 billion people – around one in three of the world’s population – don’t have a safe, clean, private toilet.
