Ceremony for MoU signing Between Women Development Department Government of Sindh, HANDS And Rutgers WPF Pakistan was held on 5th July 2012 at Sheraton Hotel Karachi, All stakeholder sharing same concerns about early age marriages poor economic and socio-cultural rituals are the primary causes for early marriages These marriages often lead to early conceptions, as adolescent girls rarely have information on family planning or enough authority to exercise their decision-making rights.
Adolescent Girls Empowerment Project (AGE) with the support of Provincial Government Sindh plan to work with the community, religious leaders, and decision makers.
This co venture meant to advocate policy makers that the legal marriage age of a girl should be 18 years instead of 16 years.
Mohammad Nawaz Naseem Secretary Women Development Department, Abdul Rahim Moosvi Provincial Coordinator AGE Project HANDS and Qadeer Baig Country representative Rutgers WPF among the representatives of Ministries of Youth Affairs, Social Welfare, Information and Women Development Department participated in the ceremony.
Provincial Minister for Women Development Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto also attended the ceremony and witnessed the MoU signing.
