Community Restoration Project with the partnership of UNDP at Mazoor Village Jati, started with the intentions to empower the community and the restoration/ rehabilitation of this village after the destruction of flood. There are so many villages suffered from flood in our district but the Mazoor Village Jati is deserved to be reformed so the joint venture of UNDP and HANDS Pakistan is the reality of the day that whole the team of UNDP visited rather inaugurated the shelters and other inputs and supports being provided to this village by the country director. It is pleasing for not only us but for the whole community who gave their warm welcome to the guests with the joy of cultural style and are still very happy to see Mr. Toshi among them.
Mr. Toshi and his entourage also joined the community with the same response and seem to be enjoyed without feeling that they are out of this community. Actually these remarks are given by one of the CBO member Mr. Khameeso that the guests gave their visit to them is great honour and reason of joy for them. The speech of Mr. Toshi and Ehsamul-haq gave great encouragement to the community, Mr. Aijaz translated the words of Mr. Toshi as such and communicated to the crowd, the clapping over the worthy words are sufficient to prove that the crowd consciously were going through.
This flood affected community with our joint venture is supported 225 shelters, 85 people are selected for entrepreneurship, 170 for live stock and poultry development, 85 for agriculture development and 20 people are supported in terms of cash for work. These poor of the poors are selected by the CBO are given trainings in the subjects respectively and then 85 people for small business are practically supported and have started their livelihood. For live stocks nominees the process to provide them goats has been started as per schedule and the farms are also made there. 25 females are provided swing machines along with required stuff are also given trainings, 10 out of 25 have completed 2 months training of stitching clothes are happy now, they are generating their livelihood at low cost charges which benefits to the client as well. Agriculture inputs are in the process to be provided within the couple of days and at the time when they require fertilizer and seeds, etc.
The process of mobilization is continued for the sustainability of whatever they are given or going to be given. Due to the lack of education the community needs to be paid proper attentions in terms of education and health. Our non-stop efforts will bring positive results for this community and hopefully we will be successful in our pure intentions for the development of these people. The community physical infrastructure is also the part of our program in which 25 hand pumps, plantation for good environment, streets and drainage, etc are the main components. Except this the process of mobilization regarding health and education will be continued even if the scheduled time period of project is over. At this stage community is so empowered and well aware that they keep check and balance in terms of quantity and quality, they are a bit capable now to resolve their minor problems, the process of development is not to be stopped, the community realizes that what is development and how to live a good life.
HANDS has also decided to enhance the enrolment of girls and boys in this school, drop out of the students is discouraged through community meetings and a positive response is expected rather assured by the community that they will get their children admitted in the schools and they will leave no stone unturned for a quality education. A transit shelter school is also constructed there; a community hall is also the part of our program.
The guests of UNDP visited physically and checked most of interventions with the satisfaction that the joint venture is going on successfully.
The conditions of this village before our intervention that there was very pitiable condition as the women of community were telling to the media who were tentatively called and asked the questions.
This joint visit of UNDP and HANDS is ever welcome specially by this developing community, they are calling through cell fones and showing their joys and happiness, they are a proof of what they are given not only in terms of finance but moral courage and the developed civic sense.
We hope and expect sustainability of the positive response as planned.
