HANDS is implementing Disaster Prevention and Disaster Resilient Rehabilitation Project under Medico International and BMZ funding in four districts of northern Sindh. Main objective of this project is to increase ability of Government institutions, civil society organizations and the population of 414 villages of the district Ghotki, Jacobabad, Kashmore @ Kandhkot and Shikarpur to withstand natural disasters and 300 households of 06 villages in district Jacobabad have access to basic social and productive infrastructure and stabilized livelihood.
In disaster risk reduction HANDS organized 03 quarterly coordination meetings at district level, one in each district, and organized 09 events of exchange program visits of DRR committees in district Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Kandhkot and Ghotki. Totally 178 participants from DRR committees participated in these events and shared their ideas with each other. Community has constructed 87 Protective Community Infrastructure schemes in 87 villages of four above mentioned districts.
In rehabilitation of social and productive infrastructure, one protective community infrastructure scheme has been constructed in one village. In livelihood, 18 participants have been trained on small enterprise development and also established small enterprise development units in six villages of district Jacobabad.
