Situation Update April 18,2020

Risk Awareness

  • Telephonic Helpline Number (0343-2111177 & 0346-1117771) reached by nearly 9,000 needy, facilitated for medical advice, lab test and food ration as per set criteria.
  • Nearly 230 field staff, 2100 Community Resource Persons (CRPs), > 6400 Community Based Organization (CBO) representative, >21,000 School Management Committee (SMC) Members are oriented on COVID-19 preventive measures in 20 districts across Pakistan.
  • 2,690 awareness raising sessions conducted through Community Health (Marvi) Workers to ensure COVID-19 preventive measures.
  • Awareness raising session conducted among 465 Community Microfinance Groups regarding the precautionary measures of COVID-19 in 09 districts of Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan.
  • Education and awareness raising sessions conducted by > 7,000 teachers participated by > 11,000 parents and > 30,000 students in 09 districts in Sindh.WASH services hyd

Health Services

  • HANDS 40 Health facilities (Public Private Partnership Project at district Malir with GOS, BRSP Project with Eni Oil & Gas Company at Jamshoro, with philanthropist support at Mirpurkhas and Shaikhupura Punjab) are engaged in facility based COVID-19 awareness raising campaigns. Some centers also providing Psychosocial counseling.
  • Isolation wards are established in Sindh Government Hospitals at Ibrahim Hyderi & Murad Memon Goth Malir. Under PPP
  • 06 Ambulances are deployed to isolation centers and quarantine centers of District Malir under Public Private Partnership
  • Continuous supply of Personal Protection Equipment’s (PPEs) 34 Health Facilities under PPP Project at District Malir. It includes 66,000 disposable gloves; 25,000Surgical face masks; 3,600Head covers; 2,600Long sleeve gowns; 3,600 Shoe covers and 650 hand Sanitizers provided.
  • 19 non-technical staff appointed for Quarantine Centers of Dumba Goth and Gadap in partnership with Unicef.
  • 930 Health Care Providers (HCPs) and 3600 Marvi Workers (MWs), trained on effective use of Personal Protective equipment’s and Coronal related Internal Personal Communication.
  • 2,244 villages of 12 districts were reached to continue Reproductive Health & Family Planning services.
  • 74,848 community women received essential health services in their villages over last 13 days.
  • 106,089 Women of Reproductive Age attended counseling Services.
  • 7,110 Children, Pregnant and Lactating Women’s received nutrition supplements that is RUTF, IFA, MNP through 07 Out Patient Therapeutic Program (OTPs) through 95 Marvi Workers.
  • Provision of hand-wash 35,000 soaps at Marvi centers in Tharparkar, Badin and Umerkot.
  • HANDS conducted Situation and Gap Analysis regarding Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) at Quarantine and Isolation Facilities in Sindh.

Food Security & Livelihood (FSL)

  • Food Ration distribution continues to reach 25,000 families in 30 district across Pakistan, through “HANDS Food for
  • survival Project” in partnership with Philanthropist (to 6,515 families), Medico International Germany (to 1300 families), Eni Oil & Gas Company (to 3000 families), Community Based Inclusive Development Network and Saaya Independent Living Center (to 50 Person with Disability).
  • 200 beneficiaries received livelihood support Interest free loan in Umerkot and Sanghar during COVID-19 emergency.
  • 500 rickshaw drivers in Karachi are continuously being supported in Guzara project.

WASH services at Isolation Centers/Health Facilities

 HANDS has initiated 3 months “Humanitarian Response for COVID-19” for Isolation Center / Wards of 22 designated Health facilities located at District Karachi, Sukkur, Shikarpur, Khairpur, Naushahro Feroz, Sanghar, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan. HANDS will equip the Isolation Ward / Center in term of PPEs, Deploy the support staff, ensure orientation and training to use the PPEs. In addition will also mobilize 700,000 population on COVID-19 through awareness raising sessions.

  • HANDS has provided Hygiene kits (Soaps 6000; Sanitizers 2000 and masks 2000) for 2,000 families to Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) of Sindh and Balochistan.
  • HANDS conducted Situation Analysis of Water Sanitation and Hygiene facilities at Quarantine and Isolation Centers in Pakistan.

 

Covid-19 Response in Partnership with OXFAM:

  • HANDS with the partnership of OXFAM has launched CoVID-19 Response project in District Badin. Project will support 55 health care provider at DHQ/ THQ, RHCs/ BHUs and 51 LHWs to get trainings on Infection Prevention & Control- IPC. The basic PPE kits will be provided to those participants.
  • 20 Hand washing stations will be installed at Health Facilities including BHUs, RHCs, THQs and DHQ Badin
  • HANDS will also support PDMA Sindh to launch awareness campaign through installation of 29 Canopies/ umbrellas marked with messages of Corona preventive measures at Traffic Police/Police Check posts in Karachi city
  • The alternative livelihood support will be provided in targeted communities & facilitation will be provided to eligible beneficiaries to get support under Ehsas program

HANDS – UNFPA collaboration on COVID-19 Response

 HANDS in collaboration with UNFPA has launched an emergency response project. This project will be implemented in Districts Umerkot, Sanghar of Sindh and Districts Lasbella, Quetta of Balochistan. The project aims to empower the women/girls and youth of the intervention areas through awareness raising regarding the pandemic. The Project will also ensure to improve hygiene conditions of the young boys & girls and women of reproductive age in communities.

  • Project will provide services in women jails though provision of hygiene kits and installation of handwashing facilities for young women and men prisoners in jails and shelter homes.
  • 480 health care providers will be trained at 60 health facilities regarding Infection Prevention and control/Universal Precautionary Measures
  • Mass media campaigns will be carried out to reach you population and general communities through FM Radio messages, talk shows, IEC material etc.
  • 27,000 beneficiaries including men, women and girls will be reached through community awareness sessions to be conducted by Marvi workers

 HANDS Participated in National forums including Natural Disaster Consortium-NDC, WASH sector partner’s forum, Provincial WASH working groups, National Nutrition Working group, National Humanitarian Network (NHN), START Network- to expand and execute COVID-19 respond.
